The Ministry of Industry and Minerals announced today, Monday, the start of the trial operation of a petrochemical plant in Basra Governorate.
The ministry stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "with personal follow-up from the Minister of Industry and Minerals, the trial operation of a petrochemical plant in Basra Governorate has been started, to produce low density polyethylene granules, for the first time since", the ministry pointed out that "the General Company for Petrochemical Industries, affiliated to the ministry, was able to restart the plant with self-efforts and capabilities, after it had been suspended for more than 12 years."
The statement confirmed, "The official opening of the factory will be within the next few days, and the ministry is working on operating all of its suspended factories through systematic plans to raise the Made in Iraq logo.
