Al-Halbousi: A need to activate parliamentary diplomacy to solve the region's problems

    Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi stressed on Wednesday ,the need to activate parliamentary diplomacy to solve the region's problems, during his meeting with President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ibrahim Raisi in Tehran.

    "The meeting discussed the development of bilateral relations and joint cooperation between the two countries in all fields, including at the trade and economic levels in a manner that serves the interest of the two neighboring people and contributes to achieving development and stability as they stressed the importance of Parliamentary cooperation to strengthen relations between the two countries," said the media office of the Speaker of the parliament in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

    Al-Halbousi stressed, "the importance of strengthening cooperation at the parliamentary and executive levels in terms of the bilateral relationship," calling for the need of the joint action and activating parliamentary diplomacy to solve problems in the region, and to strive hard to achieve security and stability in it.

    He added, "the two countries have gone through difficult years, as Iran was subjected to economic sanctions, and Iraq was exposed to terrorism and everyone was affected by the global and health crisis represented by the Corona pandemic, as well as repeated violations of the sovereignty of countries, so we look forward to the coming days to be better for our peoples, and this is our responsibility to strive together, to completely arrange the situation in the region and improve our relations."

    For his part, the Iranian President welcomed Al-Halbousi and congratulated him again on his re-election as Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, expressing his happiness with the close relationship between the Iranian Shura Council and the Iraqi Council of Representatives, hoping that this visit will be a turning point for upgrading relations between the two countries. It would play an active role in the context of promoting rapprochement and economic and social cooperation, as to it would be headquarters for strengthening parliamentary cooperation with neighboring countries."

    Raisi expressed his country's support for Iraq and its stability, and the formation of the new government in Iraq to be completed as soon as possible.
