President Barham Salih affirmed on Thursday, that Iraq strongly supports the stability of the region and putting an end to tensions, while Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi indicated his country's aspiration to strengthen bilateral relations with Iraq in various fields.
The media office of the President stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "President Salih met, in Tehran, the new Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi, in the presence of the foreign ministers of the two countries and a number of senior officials from both sides," noting that number of mutual issues were discussed in a way that enhances the solid relations between the two neighborly countries.
At the beginning of the meeting, Salih congratulated President Ibrahim Raisi on the occasion of his assumption of the presidency of the Islamic Republic of Iran, wishing him success in performing his duties and achieving more progress and prosperity for the friendly Iranian people. He also expressed his thanks for this invitation from the Iranian side.
The President of the Republic praised Iran's supportive role for Iraq in fighting the terrorist ISIS groups and its plans to destabilize the security and stability of the region, pointing out that Iraq strongly supports the stability and peace of the region and ends the tensions that taint it, and works to be an arena for the convergence of the interests of its peoples, the statement mentioned.
Salih stressed, "the region's need for understandings, coordinating efforts through constructive dialogues to consolidate the pillars of regional stability and confront the challenges that face the countries of the region in terms of terrorism and health crises represented by Corona pandemic, the dangers of climate change and environmental protection, stressing that a secure and stable Iraq is an essential part of regional security and stability and an important factor for economic interdependence.
For his part, President Ibrahim Raisi affirmed his country's aspiration to strengthen bilateral relations with Iraq in various sectors, which are important and distinguished social, religious and cultural relations," stressing the Islamic Republic of Iran's support for the security and stability of Iraq and its people.
Raisi also praised the great efforts exerted by Iraq to establish stability and security in the countries of the region.
