The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today, Tuesday, that the Saudi-Iranian negotiations taking place in Baghdad may pave the way for the return of diplomatic relations, while noting that Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi was present in the round of negotiations.

Ministry spokesman Ahmed Al-Sahaf told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Iraq hosted the fifth round of dialogues between Tehran and Riyadh, within the framework of the Iraqi policy's adoption of the principle of establishing collective dialogues to establish consensus and balance at the regional level," noting that "the atmosphere of the negotiations was calm and there was a state of positivity and understanding.

He added, "The dialogue included several files, among it the security file,"

He stated that "the round of dialogues has begun and is still extended and is on its way to bringing about fundamental and basic approaches, perhaps including the resumption of diplomatic representation between Iran and Saudi Arabia."

He added, "Iraq has made great steps in the pace of regional and international interactions, including sponsoring the fifth round between Tehran and Riyadh, and started a round of dialogues that extended to other parties on a bilateral and multilateral level," noting that "such dialogues are devoted to more stability and balance at the level of The region, Iraq's security and sovereignty, because Iraq is not immune from it, but rather it is an important party within its core."
