A member of Patriotic Union of Kurdistan - PUK, Muhammad Khoshnaw identified points of disagreement with the Kurdistan Democratic Party - KDP over the post of the President of the Republic, while calling for a dialogue between the two parties to resolve the nomination of the President of the Republic.

”PUK is not insisting on naming its candidate for the presidency, and its insistence focuses on the importance of continuing previous political agreements in managing positions in the Kurdistan region, as well as federal positions with the KDP,” Khoshnaw told the Al-Iraqiya News TV and followed by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.

Khoshnaw explained that, "The KDP has assumed the positions of the presidency of the Kurdistan region and the presidency of the government of the region, and according to the agreements, the position of the president of the republic must be from the share of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan,”

"There is a disparity in attitudes, as the PUK presented its candidate, Barham Salih, within the national space and not via a specific political alignment, as happened with KDP candidate, as the legislator stipulated a two-thirds quorum in the presidential election session, and this is achieved in the national space,” he included.

He stressed that "there are many commonalities and differences with PDK, including the election law in the region, the Kurdistan Commission, the management of the energy file, and the issue is related to the quality of the relationship between Erbil and Baghdad, and the Democrat's attempt to seize the position of President of the Republic by overpower must stop,”

”The president's nomination is related to the agreement of the two sides of the current political equation in Iraq, the (Save the Homeland) coalition and the third guarantor, as a Kurdish party should not go towards a Shiite party and leave the other, as political balances are an essential factor for KDP wants to benefit from his rapprochement with the parties of the tripartite alliance to strike PUK,” he highlighted.

Khoshnaw called on the Kurdistan Democratic Party to return to understandings and political dialogue to resolve the nomination of the President of the Republic in order to prevent an imbalance in the Kurdish balance that deepens the crisis, noting that "any initiative between the two parties requires KDP to listen to the calls of PUK and the Iraqi forces that support the unity of the Kurdish rank as that positions are taken equally,”
