Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States and Head of the Media and Communication Sector, Ahmed Rashid Khattabi outlined the strategy and objectives of the meetings of the Permanent Committee for Arab Media in Baghdad, stressing the committee’s keenness to combat all extremist conflicts and terrorism.
“The meeting of the Permanent Committee for Arab Media is of particular importance to consider the role entrusted to it according to the statute of the Ministerial Council for Arab Media," Al-Khattabi told the Iraqi News Agency – INA, noting that "the meeting discussed a number of items related to the Palestinian issue, developments of the Israeli occupation platforms and the necessity of Preserving the original urban, civil and cultural aspect of Al-Quds Al-Sharif,”
He pointed out the integrated Arab media strategy that the General Secretariat of the Arab League, in cooperation with member states, continues to follow, saying “there is an in-depth discussion about the Arab movement at the media level to cooperate with the permanent missions of the League of Arab States and Arab ambassadors to improve the image of the Arab and defend the various Arab values and interests abroad,”
“There is a strategy for integrating the action plan and the strategy to defend the issues of concern to the Arab street, including the keenness to combat all extremist conflicts and terrorism, which poses a threat to the foundations and safety of Arab countries," he included.
Al-Khattabi stressed, ”The committee looks forward to coming up with practical recommendations to improve the Arab media system," extending “its sincere thanks to the Republic of Iraq for the facilities it provided to the General Secretariat to organize the meeting in the best conditions,”
He added, "Everyone realizes the importance of the media's role, whether public or private, to defend Arab identity and Arab interests," noting that "the General Secretariat of the Arab League is working to take into account Arab diversity and peculiarities, as the ultimate goal is to create intellectual coherence and harmony with regard to common denominators,"
