The Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, Hamid Naim Al-Ghazi, the Turkish ambassador, called today, Thursday, for the government of his country to increase water releases to support the agricultural sector in all regions of Iraq, in coordination with the Ministry of Water Resources, and to adopt a plan for equitable water distribution.
A statement by the General Secretariat, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that "the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers stressed, during his meeting with the Ambassador of the Turkish Republic in Baghdad, Ali Reza Guney, the importance of the permanence of the meetings, because of the bilateral relations that link Iraq with Turkey in the economic and trade fields, and the two countries' overlap in Many common files, the most important of which is the water file.
Al-Ghazi, the Turkish ambassador, called, according to the statement, for the government of his country to increase water releases to support the agricultural sector in all regions of Iraq, in coordination with the Ministry of Water Resources, and to adopt a plan for distributing water fairly.
With regard to the process of trade and food exchange between Turkey and Iraq, the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers explained that "the Council of Ministers recently issued several decisions that stand on addressing the crisis of high food prices, represented in allowing the import of foodstuffs and zeroing customs duties for a period of three months; This will allow the return of commercial activity between the two countries."
For his part, the Turkish ambassador indicated that "the bilateral meetings between Turkey and Iraq are continuing to address the water file, and there are joint committees working to determine the development of a plan to determine the rates of water releases."
