The Security Media Cell announced Sunday the arrest of (12) suspects trading counterfeit currencies in three governorates.
The cell said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The National Security Service detachments , and after obtaining judicial approvals, were able to dismantle a network of counterfeit currency trading consisting of (5) individuals in the capital, Baghdad, in flagrante delicto, and fake 15 million dinars and light weapons were seized in their possession.
The cell added that "the device's detachments in Wasit Governorate arrested a gang consisting of (3) individuals who were selling counterfeit currencies in a tight ambush after the issuance of arrest warrants against them," noting that "they were seized with (25) million counterfeit dinars and an unlicensed firearm."
It also added, "The device's detachments in Dhi Qar governorate were able to arrest (4) suspects who were promoting counterfeit currency in separate areas of the governorate, with about (10) thousand counterfeit dollars and about (one million) fake dinars as well, and a quantity of crystal material estimated at (250) ) Gram with one of the wanted suspects in drug trafficking cases.”
The cell stressed that "the statements of all the accused were written down and referred, along with the seizures, to the competent legal authorities to take the necessary measures against them."
