     INA - BAGHDAD

Digital Media Center -DMC confirmed on Wednesday that Facebook launched a campaign against illegal cloned pages that appeared in the past weeks, and caused millions of “automatic” and random likes by users, as monitored by the DMC team.

”Millions of users in Iraq and countries around the world complained about the pages that appear to have liked them without knowing them and perhaps seeing them for the first time,” said DMC in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.

The statement included that the reason for the problem is that some people exploit the feature of merging pages, which allows one page to be united with another across the Facebook platform, to clone those pages by deceiving the platform in terms of implementing the process of merging more than one page at the same time, so Facebook, in addition to merging, clones followers of these pages.

Earlier, Dhad warned in a statement published on Friday, February 25th, 2022, regarding this problem, calling on Facebook to review this feature and set certain conditions that prevent any possibility of defrauding the company itself and people as well.
