Ministry of Agriculture announced Friday the formation of a committee headed by Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi to re-work the agricultural initiative, while it recommended allocating funds within the budget to the concessional lending fund.

The Ministry's advisor, Mahdi al-Qaisi, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "an order was issued to form a committee headed by Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, with the membership of the Ministers of Agriculture, Water Resources and Finance, and a number of specialists, aiming to restore the agricultural initiative," expressing his hope that "this committee will meet and set up the mechanism."

He added that "the 2008 initiative had excellent returns on the agricultural sector because it had work methods , including those related to the Ministry of Water Resources, including those related to the Ministry of Agriculture and the third part for approving loan funds," noting that "there is a tangible development regarding the previous initiative despite the presence of some failures."

He continued, "We will try as much as possible at the meeting of the committee to restore the agricultural initiative to clarify all the previous negatives in order to be overcomed," stressing "the need to allocate funds, and we hope in the budget that an amount will be allocated to the concessional lending fund for small projects."

Al-Qaisi stressed that "the agricultural sector is important and vital as it is responsible for the lives of citizens, so it is relied upon for food security, and it has a major role linked to the industrial sector and the transport sector," noting that "agriculture is the future that we count on instead of oil."
