The General Directorate for Drug Control and Psychotropic Substances announced on Saturday its operational statistics and judicial rulings issued throughout 2024.
The directorate reported the arrest of 14,438 suspects and the sentencing of 598 drug dealers, both international and local, to death or life imprisonment.
A statement from the directorate, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), detailed that "the General Directorate for Drug Control and Psychotropic Substances has recorded its operations and the judicial rulings issued in 2024, with the confiscation of 6 tons and 183 kilograms of illegal drugs, alongside the arrest of 14,438 individuals involved in drug-related crimes."
The statement further disclosed that "144 international drug traffickers were sentenced to death, while 454 local dealers were sentenced to life imprisonment."
The report also revealed that "the enemy suffered 11 fatalities and 33 injuries," while "the sacrifices of our forces included 3 martyrs and 31 wounded."
