Air Defense Commander Lieutenant-General Maan al-Saadi said, in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), on the sidelines of the Air Defense Command's celebration of the twenty-ninth anniversary of the establishment of the air defense class, that "the Air Defense Command possesses detection systems (radar) and treatment, whether for missiles or artillery, that enables it to control of the country's airspace.
He explained, "Air defense needs support and development in order to keep pace with the development happening in the world through air defense systems," stressing that "whoever possesses a strong air defense command and air weapon will be able to control the country's sky and protect sovereignty."
He pointed out, "The great development that took place during the past and current years in the air defense system, as contracts were signed with the support of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the Minister of Defense and the Chief of Staff of the Army, which aim to support the Air Defense Command and raise combat capabilities."
Al-Saadi added, "It is hoped that during the current year, advanced modern systems will be introduced, in addition to the available systems, which will increase the combat capabilities of air defense and enhance the protection of the airspace."
