The Ministry of Planning announced official statistics on child labor and the poverty rate in Iraq.

The ministry's spokesman, Abdul-Zahra Al-Hindawi, said in the Duty of Frankness program, followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "there are less than half a million working children in Iraq," noting that "the poverty rate among children rose to 38%, while the poverty rate in Iraq reached 25 percent.

He added, "Child labor requires finding a radical solution, as our five-year plan aims to make the poverty rate 16 percent, while we seek to make the poverty rate in Iraq during the year 2030 reach zero percent.".

He pointed out that "child labor has increased in the Kurdistan region."
