The Ministry of Culture announced the formation of two teams to include the Wadi Al-Salam cemetery and Darb Zubaidah on the World Heritage List, while indicating that 13 sites have been added to the preliminary list of World Heritage.
The ministry's spokesman, Ahmed Al-Eliawi, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the ministry has prepared two files to be included in the World Heritage List, where two teams were formed: the first to prepare the file of the (Wadi Al-Salam) cemetery, which had previously been prepared, but was not submitted to the World Heritage Center for administrative and technical reasons.
He added, "The second team is to prepare the file (Darb Zubaidah), the land pilgrimage road with Saudi Arabia, where the preliminary list was submitted two weeks ago to the World Heritage Center, to obtain approval for the inclusion, and in the event of approval, a joint file with Saudi Arabia in this regard will be prepared.”
He pointed out that "there are 13 sites on the preliminary list of the World Heritage, all of which are ready for inclusion and are awaiting the financial allocation, and the formation of a team to prepare the nomination file for them."
