Human Rights Commission in Kurdistan Region identified on Saturday, 4 reasons behind the increase in the proportion of immigrants from the region, while calling on the government to develop solutions to reduce immigration rates.

”The commission does not have official and accurate statistics on the preparation of the migration of young people and families in Kurdistan, despite the increase, due to the weakness of the mechanisms of the commission and the absence of specialized competencies," said the head of the Human Rights Commission in Kurdistan, Mona Yaqo, to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), noting that "the reasons for the migration of young people and the families are many,”

She added, "The first reason is the loss of economic security, as the family caretaker or the young graduate from college find themselves jobless and cannot provide for children and family due to the lack of job opportunities, so they inevitably think of emigrating to another country in which they find work or financial aid from the country of emigration and the two other reasons, namely the political and security instability,”

"The government authorities in the region are not interested in finding job opportunities for young people. Rather, most companies have brought in foreign workers to work for them because their wages are less than the wages of the Iraqi worker, and this has exacerbated the job opportunities crisis and increased unemployment among young people, forcing them to migrate,” she explained.

She indicated that "immigrants from the region represent all segments and religions, and recently young people have emerged among the largest number of immigrants, as the media highlighted their suffering near the Belarusian border,”

”The commission is against the idea of limiting immigration because it is a constitutional right in Iraq. The constitution gave the citizen the right to leave the borders and return at any time, but if we want to educate them, I think that they are citizens who love their country, but circumstances forced them to immigrate, and to bring them back in front of us is via only one way which is to reconsider the reasons for immigration and provide job opportunities,” she concluded.
