Commander of Basra Operations, Major General Ali Abdul-Hussein Al-Majidi, confirmed on Monday, that the security forces carried out extensive search operations that included areas north of Basra and the marshlands in particular.
”The security forces set up sudden check points within the city center and night patrols within the marsh areas," said Major General Al-Majidi in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
He noted that "the purpose of carrying out night inspections comes to determine the readiness of our security units stationed in those areas and pass the opportunity to the outlaws and those wanted by the judiciary from exploiting the climatic conditions to commit their criminal acts,”
"The security forces are carrying out wide night and day security practices in different areas, through which the intelligence effort has been intensified, with the participation of all units operating under the command of the leadership, in order to impose the prestige of the state and the law,”
