India plans to launch a campaign to vaccinate adolescents aged 15 and over against the Corona virus, in an attempt to tackle the challenges posed by the mutant Omicron.
In an address to the nation, Modi said, “Amicron is making a splash right now. After analyzing the international situation and our vaccination campaign against COVID-19 over the past 11 months, our scientists today have made critical decisions.”
“We have to be careful,” he added, announcing that vaccines will be available to adolescents aged 15 years and over as of January 3.
A “precautionary dose” will be made available to medical personnel and people aged 60 and over after a week, Modi said.
He continued, “We realized very early on the importance of vaccination, so more than 61 percent of adults were able to receive two doses and 90 percent managed to receive at least one dose.”
India counted more than two hundred thousand deaths during a deadly wave of Covid-19 that it witnessed between April and June, during which hospitals were overwhelmed with patients and crematoriums with the dead.
The wave was recorded following the Hindu pilgrimage “Kumbah Mela”, which is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, which attracted about 25 million pilgrims.
