    Mine Action Department discusses the launch of survey and clearance work mines and remnants of war at Dhi Qar Airport.

    "An official meeting was held at the headquarters of the Directorate of Environment of Dhi Qar, which included the second deputy governor of Dhi Qar Rafi Faiq al-Shami, director of the Southern Regional Mine Affairs Centre, Nebras Fakher, and a representative of the Civil Aviation Authority, as well as the director of the Directorate of Environment Dhi Qar and a representative of the Directorate of Civil Defense, where the importance of identifying an initial area for the start was discussed during the meeting," said Zafer Mahmoud Khalaf, director general of the Department of Mine Affairs, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency, adding that "The airport site can be surveyed and cleared so that it can be granted the required environmental approvals."

    "The procedure adopted require that the Department of Mine Affairs approach the national authorities represented by the Ministries of Defense and Interior in order to determine the extent to which they can carry out this work," he said, adding that "Dhi Qar's antiquities department will also be approached for the purpose of identifying the procedures for the effects to be found within the airport," he said.

    "There are priorities that the Civil Aviation Authority should provide us with so that we can start work, as well as the importance of entrusting a third party with the qualitative control of the survey work and the removal that will be carried out within this important location," he said.
