Civil Defense Directorate announced Tuesday a plan to cope with the floods, while sending a message to citizens.
"An updated plan has been implemented in previous years through which the Directorate deals with floods," Civil Defense media Director Brig. Gen. Joudat Abdul Rahman told The Iraqi News Agency (INA).
"The plan consists of several axes, the first is proactive, which is to issue commandments and guidance in the event of rising river levels and floods, and the second is to prepare all emergency plans for the directorate, alert civil defense centers and receive verbal immediate notices from the Meteorological Authority to find out all the details and fluctuations and determine where the heavy rains or the arrival of floods will be," he said.
"The third axis was meeting with the governors as the highest officials of civil defense in their provinces in accordance with the 44th Directorate Law of 2013," he said, adding that "during the meeting, supporting the directorates and determining the tasks of each party in the event of a flood crisis, or rising rivers," he added.
Earlier this week, cities in the Kurdistan region were hit by heavy rains followed by floods and torrential rains that pushed water to many provinces.
