The Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, Hamid Al-Ghazi, signed a memorandum of joint cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund to support the file of women in Iraq.
A statement by the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers stated, "Al-Ghazi signed with the Director of the United Nations Population Fund in Iraq, Rita Columbia, a memorandum of joint cooperation between the UN and the Iraqi Women's Empowerment Department, on supporting the gender file".
The Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers stressed the importance of strengthening partnerships with United Nations agencies, in order to benefit from comparative international experiences, in accordance with the frameworks included in the memorandum of cooperation to support the Iraqi women's file in various sectors.
Al-Ghazi stated, "The signing of the memorandum came to provide a framework for cooperation that contributes to facilitating and enhancing cooperation between the two parties in areas of common interest, including (the call to increase political will to support national legislation on gender equality, women's empowerment, eliminating gender-based violence, and other harmful), as well as supporting the amendment of the laws implementation, policies and strategies that contribute to preventing and responding to gender-based violence in accordance with international conventions, and providing technical support.
