138 people killed in 3 weeks of tribal clashes in West Darfur
At least 138 people were killed in West Darfur in tribal clashes that erupted three weeks ago and resumed this week, the doctors’ committee in the western Sudanese state said Thursday.
The doctors’ committee said in a statement that on Wednesday morning, “the bloody incidents of violence resumed in the Jabal Moon locality, the far north of the state, leaving a new death toll and injuries, property losses and the burning of villages.”
The statement added that, “until Thursday morning, the committee counted 25 dead and four wounded as a result of these events, in addition to the killing of eight people and the injury of six others near the village of Tangki in Sirba locality, adjacent to Jebel Moon locality.”
This brings the number of victims documented by the West Darfur State Doctors Committee in the localities of Karinak, Jebel Mun and Sirba since November 17 to 138 dead and 106 wounded.
The committee expressed its regret that “many of the wounded are dying because of the difficulty of getting them to medical facilities in a timely manner, as well as the lack of rural hospitals with the necessIG capabilities to rescue them, and this explains why the number of deaths exceeded the number of wounded.”
