On Thursday, Macron presented France’s priorities in the framework of its presidency of the European Union
Emmanuel Macron will hold a press conference Thursday to present the priorities of the French presidency of the European Union Council, which begins on Jan 1, 2022 and will last for six months.
Macron will present Thursday at 16:00 (15.00 GMT) at the Elysee Palace in Paris “the main European priorities that France will bear during the presidency,” according to a statement from his office, in the context of the debate on the reception of migrants and the place of the European Union in the world.
Macron spoke on several occasions about the importance he attaches to this semi-annual presidency, which will coincide with the campaigns for the French presidential elections on April 10 and 24, and the legislative elections scheduled for June.
Its goals are to “strengthen European sovereignty”, notably through military autonomy, reform the Schengen agreements, advance the “climate package” through carbon taxes and rebuild the “Treaty of Peace and Friendship with Africa” under the auspices of the European Union.
This rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union, will allow France to conduct the discussions by setting the agenda for the meetings, and thus put forward its priorities.
A defense summit is scheduled for the first three months of the French presidency of the council.
