The name of the new prime minister and members of the New Sovereignty Council will be announced within a week at the latest, the Sudanese army's commander-in-chief, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has confirmed.
"I hope that the prime minister and the members of the Sovereignty Council will be chosen within a week at most," al-Burhan said in a press statement.
On choosing new prime minister, Al-Burhan explained: "We will choose the prime minister who will belong to the technocrats," adding: "The former prime minister was chosen by consensus between the political and military forces and now the political forces do not exist, and we have a national responsibility and commitment that we are leading and helping in the transition until the elections."
On Monday, Al-Burhan declared a state of emergency in the country and dissolved the sovereignty and transitional minister’s councils, accusing the civilian component of conspiring and inciting the army.
