President of the Republic, Barham Salih, stressed today, Thursday, the need to bring those involved in ISIS crimes to justice and to ensure that they do not go unpunished.
The media office of the President of the Republic stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "President Salih received the head of the United Nations investigation team to enhance accountability for the crimes committed by the terrorist gangs of ISIS (UNITAD) Christian Richer."
The statement added, "During the meeting, it was stressed the need to investigate the crimes of ISIS terrorist gangs committed in Iraq, joint coordination between the competent Iraqi government agencies and the UN investigation team in this regard, and to provide all support to the team in carrying out its tasks."
The President of the Republic stressed the importance of bringing those involved in terrorist crimes to justice, retaliating against them, drying up their sources of funding, documenting crimes committed by ISIS and collecting evidence about them, especially those related to mass graves, and ensuring that those involved do not go unpunished, in a manner that preserves the rights of victims and prevents the recurrence of these crimes.
Salih congratulated Christian Richer on his assumption of his position as head of the United Nations investigation team to promote accountability for crimes committed by ISIS (UNITAD), wishing him success in his important humanitarian work.
