The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) clarified on Friday its procedure in investigating complaints for public and private votes, while 356 appeals were filed.

"The Commission has received 356 appeals for public and private votes," Commission complaints head Hassanein Laith told The Iraqi News Agency (INA).

"All these complaints and appeals are being reviewd by IHEC from special committees set up by members of the Board of Commissioners," Laith said, adding that "the committees have classified and scrutinized complaints and determined whether or not the violation has taken place through the commission's investigation into its branch offices and head office."

Ali Saeed Jassim, director of the legal department in the complaints and appeals department of the Electoral Commission, said: "The deadline for filing appeals is three days after the results are announced on the official website, indicating that "the legal period for receiving appeals expired yesterday."

"The resolution of appeals in accordance with the legal period in the complaints department is made within seven days and then the judiciary considers resolving the appeals within 10 days," he said, stressing that "the appeals are studied thoroughly by competent teams within the complaints department, and that they are exclusively decided by jurisdiction.”
