The General Company for Ports revealed that the Ministry of Transport, on Wednesday, a project to control the movement of vessels, while the percentage specified completion of system automation.
The Director General of Ports, Farhan Al-Fartousi, said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the increase in the number of ships depends on the volume of Iraqi trade exchange," noting that "whenever the Iraqi markets require an increase in goods, they will require an increase in the number of ships.".
He added, "This depends on the shipping lines, as there is a correlation between what is required from the Iraqi markets and the number of ships. The greater the volume of imports to the Iraqi market, the greater the number of ships entering the ports in general.".
He pointed out that "the General Company for Ports of Iraq has developed a plan, in case there is a continuous increase in the number of berths and storage yards," noting that ".
He added, "The work facilities with the exit of goods from the ports will generate an increase in the attraction of shipping lines and customers," noting that "the company has a plan that is underway, since 2018 until now, which is the process of transformation or (automation) in all the joints of the General Company for Ports of Iraq."
