Polling stations opened their doors, today, Friday, for special voting at 7 a.m. Baghdad time in the first early parliamentary elections in the country since 2003.
The special voting includes members of the security services, inmates and the displaced, while the general poll will take place next Sunday throughout Iraq, in which 3,249 candidates, 21 coalitions, and 109 parties are competing.

The Independent High Electoral Commission announced its readiness for the polling day after conducting a number of successful simulations, while Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi issued a number of directives to the Supreme Security Committee for the elections.
Which consisted of the following:
1. The security forces must activate the security and intelligence efforts, and prevent influence by any party on the voters.
2. Refusing to exploit the security forces by any political party, and any form of exploitation will be severely held accountable, and the forces must abide by complete impartiality.
3. It is strictly forbidden to block roads in any electoral district, with the intention of influencing voters for the benefit of any political party.
4. Cooperating with IHEC and the international supervisors, and facilitating their tasks.
5. It is forbidden for officers to exercise any influence on soldiers when they cast their votes, in favor of any political party.
6. All violations will be recorded, and will be submitted to IHEC to deal with them legally, whatever their source.
