FM Hussein meet with Ukrainian Foreign Minister

    Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein confirmed today, Friday, that Iraq stands at the same distance from Russia and Ukraine.

    A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs - received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) - stated that "Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein met with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in Germany," noting that "the meeting discussed the historical relations between the two countries."

     According to the statement, Hussein stressed "Iraq's firm position in respecting the principles of the United Nations Charter and the necessity of resolving disputes by peaceful means," stressing that "Iraq stands at the same distance from Russia and Ukraine."

    It stressed "the importance of reaching a peaceful settlement to the conflict between the two countries," emphasizing "the need to respect the sovereignty of states and not interfere in their internal affairs."

    For his part, the Ukrainian minister extended an official invitation to "Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein to visit Ukraine," expressing "his country's desire to open a consulate general in Erbil ,the minister welcomed this step, stressing Iraq's keenness to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries."

    The Ukrainian minister called for "developing cooperation between Iraq and Ukraine, especially in the agricultural field."
