KSA discloses the developments of the Sports City in Iraq and supports the establishment of Gulf 25 in Basra

    The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Baghdad, Abdul Aziz Al-Shammari, confirmed that Basra's hosting of the 25th edition of the Arabian Gulf Football Cup will be a turning point in the history of Iraqi sports.  

    Al-Shammari said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), today, Friday, that "the Kingdom strongly supports Iraq's organization of the twenty-fifth Gulf Cup championship in Basra stadiums," noting that "this tournament will be a turning point in the history of Iraqi sports.".

    With regard to the sports city donated by the Kingdom to the Iraqi people, Al-Shammari explained, "The site for the construction of the sports city in Iraq has not yet been determined," noting that "there is more than one site proposed for study by the joint committees that were formed between the two countries, and we are now in Final stages of site selection.

    Al-Shammari added, "The selection of the project site is subject to specific conditions related to the required area, in addition to its connection to roads and close to the airport, and in the event that these details are completed, the Kingdom is ready to start work." 

    Furthermore, the Saudi ambassador confirmed, "The trend to invest in Iraqi clubs is a successful step, but so far there has been no agreement on Saudi investment in the Iraqi sports field, and no negotiations have taken place regarding the purchase or sponsorship of any of the Iraqi clubs."
