U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken confirmed in a meeting with the president of the Libyan Presidential Council, Washington’s support for the political process and the removal of mercenaries and foreign troops from the country.
This came on the sidelines of an international ministerial meeting on Libya in New York in which the meeting confirmed their support for the roadmap in Libya until the elections are held on time.
Germany, France and Italy, with the participation of the United States and Libya's neighboring countries, called for the meeting to emphasize support for the roadmap reached by the Political Dialogue Forum in Geneva.
On his part, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas called on Libyan officials to work on the required steps in the roadmap and the exit of foreign mercenaries.
"The international community expects Libyan officials in Tripoli to work for presidential and legislative elections to be held as scheduled on December 24th," Maas said adding, “We need to intensify international pressure and support those responsible for preparing for the elections, "We also must continue to work until foreign mercenaries leave Libya."
