INA – BAGHDAD
President Barham Salih asserted on Wednesday, the importance of the international coordination in terms of facing health and environment challenges as well as counter terrorism.
Salih met on Wednesday, at his residence in New York with the President of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades and discussed bilateral relations between the two countries as how best to promote all sectors, according to a statement by the Media Office of the President of Republic, received by Iraqi News Agency (INA).
During the meeting both agreed on economic, trade and investment fields should be focused primarily, in addition to emphasizing the importance to have further international cooperation to address the challenges facing the states of the region and the World as well.
The meeting's agenda included the discussion of counter terrorism and how to strengthen diplomatic, economic and cultural cooperation as they praised the assistance being provided for the Iraqi refugees by Cyprus.
“Iraq attaches great importance to protect its sovereignty, security and stability, to enhance cooperation and to further develop trade and economic ties, while action which would threaten peace in the region should be rejected,” said President Salih.
Salih emphasized that economic crises, the spread of the Coronavirus outbreak and the climate change require the international community to make every effort and further cooperation to move beyond these conditions in order to lay the foundations of peace and stability as well as achieve progress and prosperity for nations.
For his part, Anastasiades supported the view expressed by President Salih, and emphasized “Cyprus’s eagerness to support Iraq at every level and to further develop ties with Iraq across all sectors,”
