Iraq is the leading country in implementing the democratic system in the Middle East, first deputy of parliament speaker Hassan al-Kaabi said on Sunday, adding that the next phase would have a major role for moderate forces in the administration of the state.

Al-Kaabi media office said in a statement received by Iraqi news agency (INA) that "Today, the First deputy of parliament speaker received Canadian Ambassador to Baghdad Ulrik Shannon, head of the political department Colin Lake, and political affairs and media advisor Diar Al-Khayat.”

Al-Kaabi said during the meeting "We have already called Canada to contribute in implementing  important projects related to strategic planning, federal administrations and economic and security files, as it is one of the developed countries in these fields.”

"The next phase is one of the most dangerous stages that the country is going through and we must succeed in this pioneering democratic experience throughout the region, which has a national desire to achieve it," he said.

"When there is more democratic awareness, the violence will gradually decrease, and this will be our next project, which is to create a true belief in the principles of democracy and a desire for change for the better, that the next government be clearly defined and represented by moderate forces, and that its success will have a positive impact on all Iraqis." He also said.

Al-Kaabi called on "the international community to contribute in promoting democratic concepts throughout the world as it is the only system capable of ending dictatorship, violence and militancy," confirming that "Iraq is currently seeking to develop its relations with Canada and all the countries of the world and to build these relations in accordance with the common interests and well-being of the people.
