IHEC clarifies the mechanism for the voting of Iraqis abroad

    The Independent High Electoral Commission outlined today, Saturday, the mechanism for the participation of voters abroad in the upcoming parliamentary elections, while confirming that their voting cards cannot be used by their relatives inside Iraq.

     

    IHEC media office member, Mohannad Mustafa, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Due to canceling of the out of country voting, the voters abroad have the right to participate in the elections by coming to Iraq and vote in their areas of to participate in their electoral entitlement."

     

     Mustafa added that "Regarding what is being circulated about the use of their electoral cards by others, who may be their brothers or relatives inside Iraq, we affirm that it is not possible to benefit from these cards without the presence of the people themselves."

     

    "The media campaign for the political entities was launched on the ninth of last July, that is, after the draw for the names of the contestants in the elections, and it will continue until 24 hours before the special voting, that is scheduled to take place on October 7th ," Mustafa also said.

     

    He stressed that "on the seventh of next October, electoral propaganda, and the election silence that prohibits exercising the electoral propaganda will begin."

     

     

    He also continued that "Monitoring the violations of electoral propaganda is carried out through monitoring committees in the provinces offices, and after monitoring and documenting them, they will be submitted to the governor's office, and then to the National Office, where there are specialized committees to review and decide to inform the entity or candidate of the need to remove this violation, and then taking all the necessary measures if the violation is not removed by the candidate".
