Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Al-Sahaf discussed with the Azerbaijani Chargé d'Affairs in Iraq Nasir Mamdov the bilateral relations between Baghdad and Baku, within the framework of media coordination and capacity building.
The Foreign Ministry said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Al-Sahaf referred to the exchange of support between Iraq and Azerbaijan at the bilateral and multilateral levels," stressing "the need to build on the possible opportunities in popular diplomacy between the two friendly countries."
The statement added, "Al-Sahaf expressed Iraq's keenness on the stability and security of Azerbaijan," expressing his thanks and appreciation to the government and people of Azerbaijan for supporting Iraq in confronting terrorism, and providing medical aid to confront the Corona pandemic.
The two sides stressed, according to the statement, "the necessity of exchanging media experiences between the two ministries in several areas, cooperating in a joint discourse, training media cadres, and exchanging visits between the two media offices."
For his part, the Azerbaijani Chargé d'Affairs praised the depth of the historical relations between the two countries, which extend back more than thirty years.
He added, that his country provided aid to Iraq in its war against the terrorist gangs of ISIS, praising at the same time the work and activity of the media office of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He pointed out that he "personally follows the work of the Iraqi Foreign Ministry's media office, and transfers its activities to Azerbaijan."
