Iraq and Jordan stress the need to end regional tensions via dialogue

    President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih, and Jordan's King Abdullah II stressed on Saturday, the need to end tensions in the region via convergence and effective dialogue.

    Salih received King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Abdullah II, according to a presidential statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA). 

    During the meeting, both discussed the deep bilateral relations that bring together the two neighboring countries and the two brotherly peoples, as the importance of strengthening it in various fields as it was emphasized by the bilateral agreements, as well as during tripartite cooperation with Egypt. 

    Both noted that this cooperation is important and serves the whole region by achieving economic and trade integration by supporting investment and cooperation in the sectors of energy, electrical interconnection, oil transportation and infrastructure projects.

    They also discussed regional developments, stressing the importance of Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership in strengthening cooperation, overcoming crises and moving towards security and stability in the region as a priority for all, in addition to the need to end tensions via effective and serious dialogue, as to move towards prospects for joint cooperation in  economy, trade and investment that promote a better life for all the peoples of the region.

    President Salih stressed that "Iraq's balanced relations aim to achieve security and stability in the region, and that Iraq's role in this is important and pivotal, as its security and stability must be ensured, which will reflect positively on everyone, and establish broader horizons based on peace and moving towards economic interconnections,”

    For his part, King Abdullah expressed his happiness to visit Baghdad again, praising the "growing joint relations” and confirming his country's support for Iraq in maintaining its security and stability.

    “Looking forward to strengthening economic and trade relations via the ambitions set in this regard, by strengthening the agreements concluded between the two sides,” he added.
