The Independent High Electoral Commission addressed on Sunday, the Media and the Non-governmental organizations and those concerned in electoral affairs to raise the awareness of the society about the importance of the effective participation in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
IHEC said in its weekly speech, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "with the start of the countdown to the polling day, which was decided to take place on Oct 10th, IHEC is exerting its utmost efforts in order to hold the upcoming electoral entitlement, with a high- level of transparency and integrity, and in accordance with the laws regulating the electoral process.
In a related issue, IHEC indicated that it is continuing to withhold (short-term) electronic cards for the years of 2015-2016, to ensure that they will not be used on the day of polling, affirming that the work is under way with the Co. Mero, the manufacturer of electoral devices, to discuss the mechanism of software development in preparation for conducting the second simulation process, which is scheduled to take place in mid-August.
