The Ministry of Water Resources reassured on Saturday, about the situation of dams in the country, while confirming that their safety rate is high and there is no possibility of collapsing if they are exposed to a wave of heavy rainfall.
Water Resources Adviser, Aoun Diab, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "all European and regional countries are exposed to heavy rain waves in a short time due climate change, where a very heavy rainstorm for a short period causes large torrent that expose some areas to floods.
Diab added that these rains and floods do not threaten the dams, because the dams that are built on rivers, including the main dams, have a high safety factor, and there is no possibility of collapse, noting that when the dams were built, scenarios are developed for what might happen in the event of its collapse depends on the size of the wave, how this wave arrives, and what measures should be taken then.
He stressed that there is absolutely no concern about the collapse of the dams, if there is a possibility of early rains in the coming fall, it will be an excellent thing because we have large voids that can bear any future quantities.
