American Caleb Dressel broke the Olympic record and won the gold in the 100-meter freestyle, today, Thursday, raising his tally in the Tokyo Olympics to two golds, after winning the relay four times in the 100-meter freestyle.
Dressel, 24, scored 47.02 seconds, narrowly ahead of 6 percent of the second for the Australian title holder, Kyle Chalmers, while Russian Kliment Kolesnikov came third, 42 percent of the second
, and the son of Florida, the candidate to be the first star of the current Olympics, said crying after speaking with his family and wife via video, "It was a very difficult year, really difficult. I am very happy.”
Dressel intends to do the 50m freestyle, the 100m butterfly, as well as two possible relay races with the hope of winning six golds at the current games.
Dressel's talent did not explode at the 2016 Rio Olympics, when he won two gold in the relay, and finished sixth in the 100 meters freestyle, but he dominated the short distances to the pools later, winning 13 world titles, especially in the 50 and 100 meters freestyle.
