Parliamentary Health Committee revealed a move to issue legal legislation that considers the victims of Al-Hussein Educational Hospital in Dhi Qar and Ibn Al-Khatib Hospital in Baghdad as martyrs and includes them with same legal rights.

"The Health Committee has prepared a draft law considering the victims of Ibn al-Khatib Hospital as martyrs and granting them all the rights of the martyrs like all martyrs," said the member of the Parliamentary Health and Environment Committee, Jawad al-Moussawi, to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

The draft was completed in cooperation with the Legal Committee and was referred to the Commission Presidency of the Parliament.

"The committee will add the martyrs of the Imam Hussein Hospital incident within the draft law to include the victims of Ibn Al-Khatib and Al-Hussein Hospital," said Al-Moussawi.

He explained that "the amendment of the draft does not need more than 24 hours, after which it is re-submitted to the Presidency of the Parliament to put it on the agenda,"

For his part, independent MP Abbas Al-Atafi confirmed to INA that "the central and southern governorates need a real action, and all the shortcomings about safety measures are due to the real reason for the lack of financial allocations,"

"After Ibn Al-Khatib hospital incident, there was a decision by the government to apply all preventive measures, but the Ministry of Finance has not disbursed any allocations to hospitals or governorates so far, despite the approval of the budget months ago," explained Al-Atafi.

He stressed that "the Parliament will issue decisions against the background of the Al-Hussein Hospital incident to hold the defaulters accountable, refer them to the judiciary, and host the government next Thursday,"
