The Civil Defense Directorate announced today, Monday, that it had extinguished a large fire south of Baghdad.
The Directorate said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The civil defense teams managed to control and put out a major fire that broke out inside a warehouse used as a storage for plastic granules and sponges in the Aweireg area, south of Baghdad.
The statement added that the civil defense teams made great efforts to prevent the spread of flames to the commercial stores adjacent to the accident site, after they succeeded in placing a water barrier to isolate the burned parts from the nearby storage of the mentioned materials, noting that despite the difficulty of extinguishing plastics and sponges and their gaseous toxic emissions that obstructing the civil defense effort, but the firefighters were able to contain the fire and completely extinguish it in a measured time without increasing the material losses inside the burning warehouse.
The Civil Defense requested to summon the forensic expert and open an investigation at the police station responsible for the area to determine the causes of the fire.
