Washington warns repercussions filling Renaissance Dam

The United States considered that Ethiopia's filling the Renaissance Dam reservoir will likely lead to an increase in tension. 

The official spokesman for the US State Department called on all parties in Ethiopia to refrain from unilateral actions. Yesterday, Monday, the Egyptian Minister of Irrigation, Mohamed Abdul-Aty, received an official notification from his Ethiopian counterpart, Seleshi Bekele, informing him of the start the second filling of the Renaissance Dam. The Egyptian Ministry of Irrigation said in a statement that "Abdul-Aty sent an official message to Bekele to inform him of Egypt's categorical rejection of this unilateral measure, which is a clear and dangerous breach of the Declaration of Principles Agreement, and is a violation of international laws and norms that govern projects built on the common basins of international rivers, including the Nile River.
