The Ministry of Electricity (MOELC) announced on Tuesday, new agreements to raise gas supplies and restore Iranian gas flows.
MOELC stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "the Undersecretary for Production Affairs, Engineer Adel Karim, met the Chargé d'Affairs of the Iranian Embassy in Iraq, Moussa Ali Zadeh, to discuss the latest developments in bilateral relations between the two countries in the field of energy and fuel.
The statement added that Zadeh indicated that Iran seeks to continue and strengthen the bonds of friendship and deep historical relations between Iraqi and Iranian peoples, noting that Iran is ready to raise gas pumping rates, restore the work of Iranian lines, and the possibility of operating (Amara - Karkha) lines to contribute in the stabilization of electrical voltages in the southern provinces.
For his part, Karim indicated the ministry commitment for joint work on energy issues, which is one of the ministry's core strategies and interests nowadays, pointing out that energy lines and towers have been vandalized for a long time to deprive citizens of the electrical energy, the latest of which was the complete shut down to the national electrical system last Friday due to the disconnection of electric power transmission lines.
