The Ministry of Justice announced on Saturday that foreign terrorists will not be transferred to their countries until they have served their sentences in Iraq, pointing out that ambassadors of their countries are allowed to visit them in observance of human rights.
The official spokesman for the Ministry of Justice, Ahmed Laibi, stated to the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that Arab and foreign terrorists arrested according to Article 4 of anti- terrorism law, will not be extradited to their countries until they serve their sentences according to the Iraqi law, as some of them are serving 15 years while others are serving life sentence.
Laibi said that the death penalty against Arab and foreign terrorists are still appealed for everyone who is arrested on terrorism charges and according to the type of crime after the verdict acquires the final degree, then a Republic decree is issued to implement the death sentence against those included, affirming that the international human rights organizations and ambassadors of prisoners’ countries are allowed to visit them, out of respect for human rights, as visits stopped two years ago due to the Corona pandemic
We have large numbers of Arab and foreign prisoners accused of terrorism in the prisons of the federal government and the prisons of the Kurdistan region, noting that there is no accurate statistics about their numbers at the moment, Laibi added.
