The Supreme Judicial Council stressed, today, Tuesday, the need to resolve the cases of killing protesters immediately, pointing out that Rusafa Investigation Court had begun conducting an investigation on these cases.
SJC stated, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Faiq Zidan , in the presence of the head of the Judicial Supervision Authority, Muslim Mutaib Madib, met the representatives of the coordination of October demonstrations, noting that Zidan affirmed that the right of peaceful demonstration is guaranteed under the provisions of Iraqi Constitution.
During the meeting, the requests and observations of the demonstrators’ representative were discussed, emphasizing the need to communicate with the demonstrators continuously to verify the information received from the investigative authorities against the demonstrators in order not to plot against them.
Zidan confirmed that Rusafa Investigation Court has begun conducting a full investigation into the incident of killing protesters in demonstrations on May 25, 2021 and following up all the procedures in that case, leading to determining the direct responsibility for the incident, noting that The Judiciary deals with the evidence presented in each case In terms of its sufficiency for conviction or not, as it is not possible to issue any judicial decision without relying on legally considered evidence away from any interference in the work of the judiciary from any side.
