The head of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, Muhammad Rida Al Haider, said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “The increase in assassinations with the approach of the elections comes due to the presence of some parties that use gangs to strike their opponents, but not to a large extent,” explaining that “the Security and Defense Committee is in the process of Hosting security leaders next month, with the elections approaching, to discuss this file and secure the electoral process and candidates.
On the other hand, Al Haidar explained that "organized crime has taken a wide horizon in Iraq and has developed significantly after 2003," noting that "before 2003, these organized crimes did not exist in this way, especially drug dealers that finance them financially."
