Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that his country needed an air defense system, adding: "That is why we bought the S-400 missile defense system from Russia .
This came during a live television interview with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which was reported by the Turkish news agency "Anatolia".
Erdogan said that he will discuss, during the upcoming NATO leaders' summit, with his US counterpart Joe Biden, the reasons for the deterioration of relations between the two countries, and renewed his defense of his country's purchase of the Russian S-400 air defense system.
Regarding the dispute with Washington over the purchase of the Russian "S-400" system, Erdogan said that Turkey had bought the "S-400" from Russia because of our need for an air defense system, adding: "Turkey has the right to protect itself."
