The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, called for an immediate de-escalation and an end to hostilities in the Gaza and Israel.
"Out of respect for the spirit of Eid al-Fitr, I call for an immediate cessation of escalation and an end to the hostilities in Gaza and Israel," Guterres said on his Twitter page.
He added, "A large number of innocent civilians have died, and this conflict will only lead to extremism in the whole region."
The Israeli air force and ground forces continue to bomb the Gaza Strip, causing more than 100 martyrs so far and wounding hundreds of others.
