A ministry statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) stated, "The Minister of Water Resources, Eng. Mahdi Rashid Al-Hamdani, chaired the joint ministerial meeting, which was held via closed-circuit television with his counterpart, the Syrian Minister of Water Resources, Tamam Raad, in the presence of a number of water specialists to discuss the shortage of the current water imports of the river. For his part, the Syrian Minister of Water Resources expressed his country's readiness to support the water file and preserve the strategic storage in dams .
The statement continued, "It was agreed to continue holding meetings to review the latest developments in this regard and to set the beginning of June as the date for the next meeting."
