Marsh Man statue … a testament to authenticity and heritage

    At the entrance to the suspension bridge in the city of Amara, A marsh-man statue stands on its boat carrying his fishing hooks, which is one of the fishing methods that extend to the time of the Sumerian civilization, a symbolic sign embodied by this statue, and confirms originality and heritage who were and still are the way to the future, reminding generations of the history and nobility of their ancestors 
    Regarding this statue, writer and historian Hazem al-Muhammadawi says to the Iraqi News Agency (INA):
      “The Marsh Man statue (the fisherman man monument) is located in the center of the governorate, specifically in a round-shaped square at the end of the suspended Amara Bridge, which connects the eastern regions of Maysan to its north. "The height of this monument is (190 centimeters), and with its base it is (210 centimeters), and its full weight is (1 ton and 200 kilograms) approximately."
    For his part, artist Hassan Al-Abadi, who designed it, says that "the time for making the statue took two full months, and its tools were from scrap iron that he collected with his own efforts, to be a masterpiece symbolizing (the man of the marshes) while he holds his hook in a position indicating the ancient way of hunting for the inhabitants of those areas."
    He added: "We wanted through this statue to shed light on poaching and merciful hunting, especially towards wild animals that enter the southern governorates in certain seasons."
    It is noteworthy that the statue is the work of artist Hassan Al-Abadi, and he presented it as a gift to the city on the occasion of the marshes being included in the World Heritage List.
