Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi and the US ambassador to Iraq, Matthew Tueller, stressed the need for the United Nations to supervise early elections.
A-Halbousi met the US ambassador to Iraq, Matthew Toller and discussed developments in the security and political situation as well as the preparing for the upcoming early elections, accord to a statement by al-Halbousi media office received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
"In the country, and the importance of providing the appropriate environment for conducting free and fair elections that express the will of the citizen, and the need for the supervision of the United Nations and organizations concerned with the electoral matter to have popular, political and international acceptance,” included the statement.
During the meeting, both discussed bilateral relations, strengthening strategic cooperation between Iraq and the United States according to mutual interests, and a number of issues of common interest.
